County enacts Stage Two Fire Restrictions above North Rim

Coconino County will enter Stage Two Fire Restrictions at 12:01 a.m., July 4 above the North Rim of the Grand Canyon.

Stage Three restrictions will remain in effect for the rest of the County.

This ordinance applies to unincorporated areas and residences in the County that are not under the jurisdiction of a fire district.

Stage Two Fire Restrictions prohibit any combustion, open fire and camp fires unless:
•People have written permits or variances from their fire district (except on Red Flag Days).
•Open flame for personal use of tobacco products is restricted to inside closed vehicles or buildings only.
•Cooking with LPG fuels that can be turned on and off, like gas grills, and the area is cleared of combustible materials.
•People operating tools with internal combustible engines or generators and pumps with an approved spark arresting device and the area is cleared of any combustibles within three feet of the device.
•For emergency repair of public utilities and railroads and other health and safety mitigation measures when operated by a public utility or railroad and implemented in accordance with an approved agency plan.

Fireworks are prohibited in all stages.

While activities, that don’t involve mechanical operations, such as lawn care, home construction and community clean-ups, are not specifically prohibited, residents and visitors should use their best judgment when considering whether to engage in any activity that could spark a fire. Anyone engaging in these activities could be held legally responsible.
