Equestrian Cross Country Course
Equestrians can enjoy the Equestrian Cross Country Course at Fort Tuthill County Park. Located on the north side of the park, the cross country course is open dawn to dusk, year-round, weather permitting, and dependent upon reserved events. Users must fill out a waiver on a yearly basis and pay a yearly use fee. Waivers are available at the CCPR Administrative Office, Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., or at a self-serve, sign-in box outside of normal business hours. Cross Country Course use fees are:

Individual use: $150/year
Eventing use: $250/day or $225/day for non-profits

2016 blackout dates for the Equestrian Cross Country Course, due to scheduled events, include:
May 13-31, 2016 (due to Spring Coconino Horse Trials and Dressage Show)
June 4 - 21, 2016 (due to Coconino Fundraiser Competition)
June 24 - July 19, 2016 (due to Summer Coconino I and Summer Coconino II Horse Trials)

The course jumps are marked with U.S. Equestrian Federation Difficulty Levels:

Blue – Pre-comp
Yellow – Beginner Novice
White – Novice
Black – Training
Green – Preliminary
Red – Intermediate
Below are rules regarding the Fort Tuthill Cross Country Course:

  1. Arena use hours: dawn to dusk; year round; weather permitting.
  2. The Cross Country Course (Course) is available for use by Coconino County Parks and Recreation (CCPR) approved events and for users that have paid the use fee and have signed a waiver. Payment and waivers are available at CCPR Administrative Office Monday - Friday 8AM – 5PM. Payment and waivers are available at the self-serve sign-in box for course use outside of normal business hours.
  3. The Cross Country Course will be closed to all public use during scheduled event days. Please contact the CCPR office at 928-679-8000 or visit the website,, to get the current calendar of events.
  4. The Course is for recreational use only; no lessons or commercial use is permitted.
  5. Jumps are rated as shown on the jumps difficulty rating system/scale and marked on the course. It is your responsibility to know your skill level and ride within your ability.
  6. Horses must be under the control of the owner at all times.
  7. Glass containers, alcoholic beverages, and tobacco products are not allowed in the Course area.
  8. Motorized vehicles, including ATVs, are not allowed in the Course area.
  9. Adult supervision is recommended for riders under 18 years of age.
  10. The Course may be closed by the Parks and Recreation department if conditions are unsafe or if maintenance activities are scheduled.
  11. No unauthorized building or modification to any of the jumps within the Course.
  12. The equestrian Cross Country Course is a non-supervised facility. Equestrian jumping is a hazardous recreational activity. Helmets and other protective riding equipment are recommended.
  13. Use of this facility may result in broken bones, paralysis, or other serious or fatal injury.
