About the Volunteer Program Volunteering for Senior Meals

If you appreciate Community Services' mission (Working together; Improving lives; Creating solutions; with Coconino Communities) please consider serving our community by volunteering with us. Below is a list of County programs which typically need volunteers.

Senior Nutrition and Transportation for Flagstaff

Monday through Friday noon-hour congregate meals are prepared and served to seniors at the Joe C. Montoya Adult and Community Center (Thorpe Park).  For approximately 70 seniors who are home-bound, meals are delivered via the Meals on Wheels program.  To further fight isolation and address related needs transportation is provided.

  • Delivery Assistant - Ride along with Meals on Wheels!
    • Time: Monday through Friday 11:15 AM - 1:30 PM        
    • Location: Joe C. Montoya Adult and Community Center,
      245 Thorpe Rd., Flagstaff AZ 86001        
    • Typical Commitment: one day a week
  • Senior Apartments Meals Driver - Deliver a hot meal to residents at Senior Apartments
    • Time: Monday through Friday 11:15 AM - 12:15 PM
    • Location: Meals are picked-up at Thorpe Park Center and deliver to apartments off of Lake Mary Road
    • Typical Commitment: One day a week
    • Special Requirements:  Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card, and clean driving record.
  • Drivers for Activities and Programs - Transport seniors to Flagstaff or local sites!               
    • Time: Varies
    • Location: Pick up at Thorpe Park Senior Center
    • Typical Commitment: once a month
    • Special Requirements: Training provided by Senior Services, Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card, and clean driving record.

Monday through Friday noon-hour congregate meals are prepared and served to seniors at the Bill Williams Senior Center. For seniors who are home-bound, meals are delivered via the Meals on Wheels program. To further fight isolation and address related needs transportation is provided.

Typical volunteer needs:
  • Delivery Assistant - Ride along with Meals on Wheels!
    • Time: Monday through Friday, 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM

    • Typical Commitment: One day a week
  • Back Up Driver - Drive for Meals on Wheels as needed
    • Time: As needed Monday through Friday 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM        
    • Location: Pick up meals from Bill Williams Senior Center, 850 W Grant, Williams, AZ, 86046       
    • Typical Commitment: 1-2 hours a month
    • Special Requirements: Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card, and clean driving record.
  • Back Up Kitchen Assistant - Help prepare lunch for seniors!
    • Time: As needed Monday through Friday before 1:00 PM
    • Location: Bill Williams Senior Center, 850 W Grant, Williams, AZ, 86046       
    • Typical Commitment: A few hours a month
    • Special Requirements: Food handlers Certificate
  • Activity Leader - Do you have a skill you would like to share?    
    • Time: Monday through Friday, usually before or after lunch
    • Location: Bill Williams Senior Center
    • Typical Commitment: 1-2 a year
    • Special Requirements: Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card

Social Services  

Social Services provides assistance based on income eligibility and other criteria required through the various programs for housing, utilities, and supportive services. We also coordinate services which may include, but are not limited to, financial empowerment classes, child support services, housing rehabilitation and weatherization, as well as connection through referrals to a wide range of other social service programs.


Typical volunteer needs:

  • Intake Receptionist - Greet, schedule, and provide information to those seeking services 
    • Time: varies
    • Location: Coconino County Community Services building, 2625 N. King St., Flagstaff, AZ 86004 
    • Typical Commitment: varies
    • Special Requirements: Empathy, and good interpersonal skills
  • Project Connect Volunteer Service Day Coordinator - Work with other agencies and organizations
    • Time: varies
    • Location: Flagstaff (varies)
    • Typical Commitment: Typically two events per year
    • Special Requirements: Event planning, planning, and coordination skills

Basic Business Empowerment Program

The Basic Business Empowerment Program provides budding entrepreneurs with a thorough Micro-Enterprise planning and development training course.  For those who income and asset qualify and can save earned income  for business capitalization, there is also opportunity to participate in the individual development accounts (IDAs) match-savings grant program.

Typical volunteer needs:Volunteer Guest Speaker - Business Planning

  • Guest Speakers - Business subject matter experts (accounting, insurance, law, marketing, etc.) sharing expertise with student micro-entrepreneurs during a training session. 
    • Time: 15 - 45 minutes, during a daytime Saturday or week-day evening class 
    • Location: Coconino County Community Services building, 2625 N. King St., Flagstaff, AZ 86004
    • Typical Commitment: Typically one class per training (three trainings per year) 
  • Business Coach - Successful business ownership experience 
    • Time: Each training is 10-weeks (two all-day Saturday sessions, followed by 8-weekday evenings) 
    • Location: Coconino County Community Services building, 2625 N. King St., Flagstaff, AZ 86004
    • Typical Commitment: 4-hours per class, 12 classes per training, 3 trainings per year, plus evaluating business plans
    • Special Requirements: Successful business ownership experience; able to assist and evaluate business plan development
