Fee & Schedule Change Background
Coconino County Public Works worked with neighboring communities for almost a year towards creating a viable operational model for the Willard Springs Transfer Station. A series of meetings was held over the winter and spring between Public Works and Munds Park community leaders, solid waste commercial operators, wildfire management experts and residents from Munds Park, Kachina Village and Mountainaire regarding the fiscal challenges and opportunities associated with operating the transfer station into the future.

After reviewing several prospective operational models for Willard Springs, a community consensus was reached for a model that will increase the fee structure and change the summer and winter operational schedule for the station.

This model, which allows the station to remain open, was presented to and approved by the Coconino County Board of Supervisors on June 7, 2016. On Tuesday, September 27th the Coconino County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved fee increases for the Willard Springs Transfer Station.

These changes are the result of a year-long cooperative effort between the County and the communities of Munds Park, Kachina Village and Mountainaire to create an operational model that will keep the Willard Springs Transfer Station open. More information about this effort is available in the "Quick Links" section to the right of this page.
