Hon. Mark R. Baron

Justice of the Peace

 Hon. Mark Baron  Fredonia Justice Court Judge Mark Baron was elected as Justice of the Peace in 2002, was re-elected in 2006 and was selected Presiding Justice of the Peace in 2010.

Prior to his election, he began working in September 1999 as a pro tempore and special master for the Fredonia and Moccasin limited jurisdiction courts. He has been involved in the legislative committee and on the executive board of the Arizona JP Association for several years.

Before joining the Arizona judiciary, Judge Baron worked for the Kaibab National Forest with varying responsibilities over the years, primarily responsible for fire management on the North Kaibab District and was a member of several regional and national incident management teams between 1976 and 2002. Through his studies at the University of Washington in 1983 and 1984, he became a leading specialist in prescribed burning and fuels management in the Southwest.

He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Weber State College (University) in Law Enforcement and Political Science in 1972. This education placed him in the position of coordinating law enforcement activities and emergency management on many occasions within the US Forest Service.

Judge Baron has been involved in the Town of Fredonia government, serving twice on the Town Council and as an officer on the local fire department for almost two decades. On two separate occasions he has served as the Fredonia magistrate judge. He has continued to consult on various community development and land management efforts in Southern Utah and Northern Arizona on a volunteer basis.

He and his wife FayLynn have been married since 1973. Together they raised five children and worked in the Arizona foster care program. The Barons have been active in the local cultural, social, economic, educational and religious activities in the Arizona Strip and Southern Utah areas since moving to Fredonia in 1976.
