Coconino County Superior Court, Division Six, Judge Ted S. Reed was born in Anchorage, Alaska and raised in Girdwood and Homer, Alaska. He graduated summa cum laude from Northern Arizona University, where he earned his undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice and Psychology. Judge Reed continued his education at the University of Utah, S.J. Quinney College of Law, where he was an editor of the Utah Law Review and published several articles. Judge Reed graduated at the top of his law school class, summa cum laude, and Order of the Coif.

Upon graduating from law school, Judge Reed worked as a felony prosecutor at the Coconino County Attorney’s Office, where he prosecuted cases ranging from drug offenses to sex crimes and homicides.  He was the designated prosecutor for the METRO Narcotics Task Force and for child abuse and molestation cases.

After four years as a prosecutor, he went into private practice by creating the law firm of Reed, Antol, Hance, P.C. in Flagstaff. While in private practice, he focused on criminal defense and family law cases.

He served as a contract public defender in Coconino, Mohave and Yavapai Counties, representing clients in all types of criminal and juvenile delinquency cases. He also served as an attorney in the Family Law Assistance Program, providing free legal assistance to self-represented litigants in all types of family law cases.

Judge Reed taught criminal procedure, criminal law, evidence, mock trial, and constitutional law at NAU from 2005 through 2009 in the Department of Criminal Justice and the U.S. Forest Service Law Enforcement Academy. Judge Reed also served as secretary and vice-president of the Coconino County Bar Association in 2009 and 2010.

In January 2011, Judge Reed was appointed as Judge Pro Tempore for the Coconino County Superior Court, serving Division Six. His caseload includes juvenile delinquency, family law (dissolution and paternity, child custody, parenting time and child support cases), and Coconino County Recovery Court.

Judge Reed is married and has two children. His hobbies include equestrian (eventing, dressage and show jumping), Krav Maga, CrossFit, triathlon, Olympic weightlifting, trail running, mountain biking and hiking. Judge Reed has previously competed at international levels in equestrian competition. He trained in Saumur, France at the National Riding School.
