Why is the amount I owe larger than the amount of the bad check I wrote?

A statutory fee (this fee is provided for by statute, and the amount depends on the amount of your check.), a victim fee ($25.00), and a mandatory Bad Check Program school fee ($75.00) have been added to the amount of your check. You are responsible for payment in full of all these fees in addition to the amount of the bad check you wrote. Failure to pay any portion of the amount owed, including all fees, can result in criminal charges being filed against you.

How is the amount of the statutory fee determined?

$50.00 if the amount of the check does not exceed $100.00

$75.00 if the amount of the check is between $100.00 and $300.00

$100.00 if the amount of the check is between $300.00 and $1,000.00

15% of the amount of the check if greater than $1,000.00
