May 28, 2020: Work on Phase A of the Bellemont Access & Safety Improvements Project continued this week with crews completing 75 percent of the roadway shoulder asphalt removals and excavation to subgrade. This work should be completed by the end of the week. Traffic control flaggers are in position and working continuously throughout each day’s work shift. Although traffic has been reduced to one lane, wait times for motorists is averaging about one to two minutes. Traffic control is expected to be similar next week, when Banicki Construction is scheduled to begin grading and pre-compacting subgrade in preparation of surveying and grade staking the following week.
The Bellemont Access and Safety Improvements Project will address traffic flow and safety issues at the intersection of Transwestern Road, Shadow Mountain Drive and Brannigan Park Road in Bellemont. The project, which will tie into Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) right of way, will be built in two phases:
Phase A of the project includes a four-foot shoulder widening of Shadow Mountain Drive to install multimodal lanes between Alpine Road and Pegasus Drive.
Phase B, which is scheduled to start this summer and be completed this winter, will include the construction of a roundabout and development of an alternative business access to improve traffic circulation for trucks, businesses, travelers and residents.
