Coconino County Health and Human Services (CCHHS), in conjunction with Northern Arizona University, has developed a science-based and academically vetted program, the Enhanced Food Handler’s Certification, designed to address safety concerns of the public and to help food service establishments return to successful and profitable operations.
The CCHHS Enhanced Food Handler’s Certification represents the most current health guidance directly related to preventing the spread of COVID-19. The recommended practices stem from the Center for Disease Control (CDC), Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) and are designed to increase the safety to guests, employees and our community.
Businesses owners can certify their business by registering and affirming that all of their employees have completed the Enhanced Training. Once a business has registered, it will receive the “CERTIFIED COVID AWARE 2020” emblem, which can be printed and displayed at the business, preferably visible from the street.
The Enhanced Food Handler’s Exam incorporates the most up to date guidance from the CDC, FDA and ADHS related to preventing the spread of COVID-19. The Exam focuses on five areas for COVID-19 Safety:
The CCHHS Enhanced Food Handler’s Certification, though not required, is highly recommended to ensure staff have the most current COVID-19 information and as a way for the public to identify businesses in the community that take customer health and safety seriously. The certification is FREE to employees, and for a limited period, FREE to businesses who register and certify their business.
