Learn More About the Remapping Project

Overview of Kachina Village/Mountainaire Remapping Project

While the previous flood maps were updated to a digital format in 2010, they were based on data and technology more than 25 years old. This remapping project used the latest mapping and modeling technology as well as rainfall and other data (such as U.S. Geological Survey’s [USGS’s] 2014 hydrology report) to create the most up-to-date mapping of flood hazards in those two areas.

KACHINA VILLAGE / MOUNTAINAIRE REMAPPING PROJECT

With the release of new data from USGS,  it was determined to redo the mapping based upon the updated hydrologic data. This remapping project encompassed about 20 square miles of streams contributing to the Pumphouse Wash. The project started in 2009 and initial preliminary maps were released in 2013.

The following are the remapping project’s milestones:

  • Preliminary flood maps were released for the County to review in July 2020.
  • Live Flood Risk Open House held online on April 21, 2021.
  • Public review and comment period (Appeal Period) open April 30-July 28, 2021.
  • New flood map became effective July 19, 2022.
