Featured Job of the Week: Assistant Medical Examiner

The Medical Examiner’s Office, part of the Coconino County Health and Human Services (CCHHS) team, is nestled in the heart of Northern Arizona, in Flagstaff. The manageable caseload at our ME’s Office allows our Medical Examiners to enjoy time away from work, opportunities for community involvement, participation in academic/teaching opportunities, and involvement in a proven undergraduate internship program.

Under general direction, performs work of considerable difficulty in postmortem examinations to determine the cause and manner of death and, if necessary, assists law enforcement in the identity of deceased persons; performs related work as assigned.

Note: This position works under the direction of the appointed Chief Medical Examiner.

Note: The salary range for this position is $200,000-$230,000.

  • Valid license to practice medicine in the state of Arizona at the time of appointment.
  • Certification in anatomic pathology by the American Board of Pathology (ABP).
  • Certification in forensic pathology by the ABP. If eligible at the time of appointment, FP certification to be completed within two years of hire.
  • Maintenance of certification of time-limited certificates must be continued throughout employment.
  •  Valid Arizona driver’s license.


Must possess an Arizona MD/DO license and be Board Certified or eligible for Board certification in forensic pathology.

This position is exempt from overtime. This position is safety sensitive.
