Safe Sleep

Babies should sleep…

A…alone in a crib, free of blankets/stuffed animals/other children/other objects
B…on their backs (stomach and side sleeping increase the risk of death)
C…in a crib (babies should not sleep in their car seats or in a person’s arms or on a sofa)

Room sharing is encouraged but Bed Sharing is not!

More tips...

  • Use a sleep sack device if you are worried about keeping baby warm at night.  You can also take a lightweight blanket and tuck the sides into the mattress.
  • Babies should not sleep on beds, sofas, recliners, chairs, soft surfaces, bouncy chairs or baby swings. If this happens, make sure to return your baby to a safe sleep environment.
  • Make sure the mattress is firm and fits snugly; otherwise, a child could get stuck between the gaps. Cover it with a crib sheet with nothing else in the crib.
