Any person who has been convicted of certain sex offenses must register in person in the county in which he / she resides, per Arizona Revised Statutes during their birth month.        He / she also must register all Online Identifiers in person each year during their birth month.

The Coconino County Sheriff's Office is responsible for registering sex offenders in Coconino County. For municipalities, management of offenders is conducted through the local police department. Community notifications and registration violation investigations are conducted by the Criminal Investigations Division.

Beginning June 1, 1996, any person convicted of certain sex offenses or released from jail, prison, or placed on probation on or after this date is subject to community notification. A risk assessment is done of the offender and he / she is placed in one of three levels. The risk assessment is a screening tool designed to provide criminal justice practitioners with the ability to predict a sex offender's risk of recidivism.

  • Level I low risk
  • Level II intermediate risk
  • Level III high risk

Offenders are put on the internet by the Arizona Department of Public Safety as per Arizona Revised Statute 13-3821 through 13-3829. For Level II and III offenders, neighborhood notification with flyers is made. Level I offenders require an in-home notification where the offender resides.
