FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Coconino County District 3 Supervisor, Matt Ryan was elected as Chair of the Rural Transportation Advocacy Council (RTAC). RTAC is a coalition of Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPO) and Council of Governments (COG) from Arizona’s thirteen rural Counties. MPO’s and COG’s advocate for transportation policy at the State and Federal level.
“Transportation is the core of all our communities. From the simplest levels of visiting neighbors, shopping or recreating, to the complex interconnected networks, it is critical in maintaining and driving our economy. It is a network that we all depend upon that keeps us connected through all modes,” stated Supervisor Matt Ryan. “As Chair of the Rural Transportation Advocacy Council, I will work together with my peers from across the State to promote and improve Transportation throughout Arizona and beyond,” Supervisor Ryan said.
Supervisor Ryan collaborated with Coconino County partners to create the Flagstaff Metropolitan Planning Organization (FMPO), now called MetroPlan of Greater Flagstaff. In collaboration with partners he was involved in the creation and development of MountainLine, the regional transit system in the Flagstaff area. Supervisor Ryan also serves as a member and officer on the National Association of Counties’ (NACo) Transportation committee where he worked together with partners on all modes of transportation including railways and shipping. He continues to collaborate with county partners and champion advance transportation infrastructure and local recreation trail networks that foster healthy communities and local economic development. In addition, Ryan also serves as the Vice Chairman of the Northern Arizona Council of Government’s Transportation Technical Advisory Committee.
