Flagstaff, AZ – On the evening on March 5, 2021 at Approximately 7:45 pm a Deputy with the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office attempted to make a traffic stop on a vehicle which turned into a pursuit of speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour.
The Coconino County Sheriff’s Deputy was traveling North on Highway 89a at approximately mile post 395 when his Radar indicated a vehicle was traveling at approximately 86 miles per hour in a 55 mile per hour zone. The vehicle was approaching him traveling south bound on Hwy 89a in the area between Flagstaff and Oak Creek Canyon. The Deputy initiated his emergency lights and turned around in an attempt to make a traffic stop on the vehicle for speed. The vehicle failed to yield. A short pursuit followed, reaching speeds of more than 100 miles per hour.
Due to public safety concerns the pursuit was terminated by the Deputy as they approached the switch backs leading down into Oak Creek Canyon along Highway 89a. After terminating the pursuit, the Deputy followed the flow of traffic and located the fleeing vehicle resting on its roof at approximately mile marker 388. Three adults and one infant were located inside the vehicle and were transported to the Flagstaff Medical Center where they were treated for minor injuries. During the investigation, the deputy could smell a strong odor of marijuana coming from the driver. The driver also admitted to smoking marijuana recently.
The driver of the vehicle, Brandon Dominguez of Phoenix, was subsequently placed under arrest and booked into the Coconino County Detention Facility for Aggravated DUI, Fleeing from an Officer, 3 counts of Felony Endangerment, Criminal Damage, and 3 counts of Disorderly Conduct.
This incident is still under investigation and no further information is currently available.
